This is a model of the ship "Great Republic" in a bottle with the bottle resting on a large desk type stand containing a large thermometer showing the temperature in both centigrade and Fahrenheit. The Fahrenheit temperatures are show in an outer ring in large black letters. The centigrade temperatures are shown in an inner circle in red smaller numbers. The thermometer is brass colored and has a "rearing" Unicorn on the front with the words "Made in England" printed below. The stand has 2 large "scooped" out areas for other desk items such as pens, pencils, paperclips, etc. The wood is unknown, perhaps pine, and is dark stained colored wit a varnish finish. It is in good condition but does show some wear. The "Great Republic is shown under full sail on a blue sea. There are 4 masts and 24 sails, 4 different banners (red, blue, green and yellow), and an American flag mid way on the rear mast. The words "Great Republic 1858" is shown on a label mounted in the sea in front of the ship.
