Gruppe was a famous and well listed impresionist artist. He was born in 1896 and died in 1978. He painted well into his 70's  He lived and painted along the North Shore of Cape Ann , MA.  He exibited all over the eastern US, most particulary at the National Academy of Design, Allied Artist of America and won numerous prizes at various shows. His works are in many private and public collections.

I received this painting from a local Maine artrist. He purchased it directly from Mrs Gruppe in 1965. It is most likely one of his last paintings. It has never been for sale to date and is "fresh on the market"
